AviDardik.com Because I want a web site too! Mon, 13 Sep 2010 20:30:43 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 Bloglines – R.I.P http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/Ad_EOHL7sG8/ /2010/09/13/bloglines-r-i-p/#comments Mon, 13 Sep 2010 20:30:43 +0000 Avi /?p=624 I’ve been on the RSS feed reading wagon for a few good years. I’m not sure for how long, but should be pretty close to a decade by now.
I’ve started with different dedicated clients, like most of us, and at some point switched to a Web-based RSS reader. And once you go Web-based, you can never go back. It’s the only way to do it really. Your reader is always available to you, wherever you are in the world.

So my RSS reader of choice after switching to Web-based was Bloglines. It was hands-down the absolute best.
I used it for a few years. Somewhere down the road Google released Google Reader. When I first tried it it was pretty lame and I stuck with Bloglines.
A couple of years ago I decided to give Google Reader another go, and apparently it was redesigned by then, and could do everything Bloglines could do, and much more. I ditched Bloglines and have been using Google Reader since, never looking back.

Today it was announced that Bloglines will shut down on October 1.
Although I wasn’t using it for the last 2 years, it’s still always sad for me to read about yet one more Web pioneer that did something great, that I actually used heavily for years, and that eventually got bypassed and beaten.

Bloglines. R.I.P.

A-Ha Take On Me: Literal Video http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/OJEvEbxubrU/ /2010/06/20/a-ha-take-on-me-literal-video/#comments Sun, 20 Jun 2010 12:01:37 +0000 Avi /?p=621 As a kid of the 80’s, this was probably my most favorite music video. Take On Me, by A-Ha, was both a great song, and a fantastic video clip. Definitely the most memorable music video of my growing-up years.

Anyhow, now there a “Literal Video” version of it, and it’s pure genius!

Apparently, a new “Literal video” genre is born, check out more hilarious examples for Total Eclipse of the Heart, Meat Loaf and there’s a lot more on YouTube.

If you laugh, you’re a real geek.

How to access hidden Facebook content without clicking Like http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/UrQxnuMl4Q0/ /2010/05/13/how-to-access-hidden-facebook-content-without-clicking-like/#comments Thu, 13 May 2010 11:24:22 +0000 Avi /?p=604 A new emerging trend on Facebook is spreading like wildfire these days, and it’s a very annoying trend.
You get constant Facebook updates from friends, saying they Liked “A really interesting/funny/amazing  photo/movie/scoop” and when clicking on the link the actual content is hidden and you must press “Like” in order to gain access to that item.

Well, I’ve found a super-easy way to bypass this whole thing. This simple procedure will reveal the hidden content WITHOUT the need to click “Like”.
I’ve personally tested it with Firefox, and it works great. I’m not sure about other browsers though.

With Firefox, just create a new Bookmark in your Bookmarks Toolbar.
Name it whatever you like (I called it “Facebook Revealer“). And in the Location field, enter the following text:

javascript:%20for(i%20in%20x=document.getElementsByTagName(“span”))

%20if(x[i].style.visibility==”hidden”)%20void(x[i].style.visibility=”visible”)

Important: I’ve broken this line in half so it fits into the blog. When creating the link it should be all in a single line!

That’s it. As simple as that.
Now as soon as you reach a page that requires you to click “Like”, just click this Bookmarklet you’ve created, and the hidden content will be revealed.

Please let me know if it worked for you too.

Oh, and you’re Welcome!
:-)

Just announced by Microsoft: Windows Phone! http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/SxRQkupQLaE/ /2010/02/15/just-announced-by-microsoft-windows-phone/#comments Mon, 15 Feb 2010 16:32:15 +0000 Avi /?p=588 Seems like Microsoft is on a lucky streak here. Windows 7 seems to be a critical and commercial success.
Now shorty after that, Microsoft just announced a couple of hours ago their new phone: Windows Phone 7 Series.

Gizmodo is already calling it “The most groundbreaking phone since the iPhone”.
Engadget are also going crazy about this phone: “Forget everything you know about Windows Mobile. Seriously, throw the whole OS concept in a garbage bin or incinerator or something.”

Until right now I really wanted to get a Google Nexus phone. But now I want this one instead. Will it ever end?! :-)

AviDardik.com Down Time http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/mRds1jOQMws/ /2009/12/28/avidardik-com-down-time/#comments Mon, 28 Dec 2009 16:26:08 +0000 Avi /?p=585 In what’s now almost a reoccurring annual event, I managed to be a few days late in renewing the AviDardik.com domain again.
So the site was down for a few days, about a week and a half. I’ve finally renewed the domain and everything is up and running again. Even used the opportunity to upgrade to WordPress 2.9.

Google Chrome OS Revealed http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/PAJlcCQSNFw/ /2009/11/19/google-chrome-os-revealed/#comments Thu, 19 Nov 2009 20:23:09 +0000 Avi /?p=581 I was waiting for this for a long time, just an hour ago Google held a press conference and finally revealed the Google Chrome OS details.
To be honest I wasn’t blown away. It was pretty much what I expected.
It’s still interesting and cool. And for better or worse, that’s the direction technology seems to go.

So what it Chrome OS?
Check out this movie:

But it’s huge news of course, there’s no way I’m not posting something about that.

Windows 7 – The best Windows version since Windows XP and its rightful successor – Has been released.

FREE Microsoft Security Essentials Released http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AviDardik/~3/iqHU3h2I2Ag/ /2009/09/29/free-microsoft-security-essentials-released/#comments Tue, 29 Sep 2009 12:45:51 +0000 Avi /?p=569 Microsoft Security Essentials, the FREE anti-malware client from Microsoft is globally released according to Microsoft’s Press Release.
So far it’s been in limited beta only. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s pretty cool. Lightweight and easy on the system.

A free, downloadable, lightweight (and still-to-be-proven GOOD) anti-virus from Microsoft can seriously re-shuffle the consumer endpoint security market in the near future.
